Forest Fire
The predominant forest type present is “Dry-deciduous type” and hence prone to fires during summer season. The most severely forest fire affected areas in State are Tirupati, Visakhapatnam, Kurnool and Rajahmundry circles and parts of Srisailam Project area.
A State Level monitoring committee was formed on 07.02.2019 based on the operational guidelines for Centrally Sponsored Scheme: Forest fire prevention and Management Scheme communicated by the GoI under the Chairmanship of the PCCF & HoFF .
1st Meeting of SLMC on Forest Fire was held on 12.02.2019 and the 2nd meeting of SLMC was held on 21.03.2020.
Strategies:
For effective prevention and controlling of forest fires, following strategies are being followed;(i) Publicity Awareness among people
(ii) Participation (JFMCs/VSS/EDCs/Village secretaries) to control forest fires.
(iii) Co-ordination with Line Departments
(iv) Fire Watchers and Watch towers
(v)Using MIS modules of GIS wing of APFD
A State Level ”Forest Fire Monitoring Cell” is established at Head Office to monitor (24*7) forest fires during Fire season by taking daily Forest Fire alerts from Forest Survey of India and coordinating with the field staff to suppress and prevent fires.
