Article 48 A of the Constitution of IndiaThe State shall endeavour to protect and improve the environment and to safeguard the forests and wildlife of the country
It shall be the duty of every citizen of India to protect and improve the natural environment including forests, lakes, rivers, and wildlife and to have compassion for living creatures
Vision
To recognise forests inherent role in food security and improved livelihoods, manage forests for the full range of ecosystem services as well as posit forest as a solution to climate change.
Mission
- Conserve and protect forests, wildlife, rivers and other water sources flowing through the forests
- Preserve natural habitats of wildlife
- Preserve rich biodiversity of the state
- Take up afforestation on massive scale
- Ensure adequate supply of raw material to wood based industries, including traditional wood based handicrafts
- Supply of minor forest produce, including medicinal plants, herbs and shrubs
- Provide ecosystem services
- Provide livelihoods to the tribals, traditional forest dwellers and other forest dependent communities
- Create awareness about forests and wildlife protection
