----- Rhizome slender, climbing covered with long scales ; stipe adherent to the rhyzome. Fronds 1-4 ft. long, pinnate, fertile and barren separate ; pinnae alternate or opposite 5-10 in. long by 1- 1/2 in., linear-lanceolate, acuminate, wedge-shaped at teh base, spinulose-serrate towards apex, glabrous shining, hard, coriacious (margins cartilagenous), articulated with the rachis, marginal glands on the upper edge ; pinnae of fertile frond contracted, rachis of sterile pinnae winged particularly towards the top ; veins single or forked, proceeding from the wing towards the margin, parallel, free or sometimes the forks or two separate veins anastomising in the middle of, or towards the margin.
