----- A tall perennial grass with culms 9 ft. or higher, stout, hollow, crect, leafy up to the panicle, smooth & glabrous. Leaves distichous, linear to broadly lanceolate, tapering to a fien point, margins smooth, rounded base. Sheath smooth. Inflorescence a plumose panicle with spreading filiform branches, brownish purple. Rhachilla, long, silky hairy above the lowest lemma.
----- Found near lakes and marshes (Pakhal lake & marshes) in clumps and also acattered in the marshes. This is not a fodder grass. Baskets and carpets are made from the stems also shepherd's pipe & flutes. The culms and the leaves are also used for thatching.
