----- Twining, prostrate or suberect herbs, rarely woody at the base. Leaves pinnately 3-foliolate. Stipules persistent. Leaflets stipellate. Flowers in axillary racemes; bracts caducous, shorter than the bracteoles which are persistent. Calyx campanulate. Corolla much exserted; standard suborbicular; wings obovate. Keel with a very long beak which forms a spiral. Stamens diadelphous; anthers uniform. Ovary sub-sessile; ovules many; style swisted with the keel, usually bearded below the stigma. Pod linear or falcate, sub erect or compressed, 2-valved, more or less septate between the seeds.
