Botanical Name - Ligustrum neilgherrense

----- A small tree of the W. Ghats, met with on the Kannad and Ajanta hills in Aurangabad. Not uncommon. Bark thin, greyish-white. Leaves opposite, entire, coriaceous, ovate-lanceolate, blade 2-3 in. long by 1/2 - 1 1/2 broad, short petioluled. Flowers rather small, white, fragrant, in trichotomous panicles, lax or more or less compact. Calyx small, 4-toothed. Corolla 1/2 in., long, lobes 4, valvate, or slightly imbricate in the bud. Stamens 2, on the corolla-tube, filaments short. Ovary 2-celled. Fruit a berry; oblong-obtuse at both ends, about as large as a small bean; seeds 4 or fewer.

----- Wood white, moderately hard with a satiny lustre. It is generally of small size and might be used for turning small articles.
