Annual grass culms up
to 1 1/2 ft. tall, slender, erect or ascending from a geniculate
base, sometimes prostrate. Leaves cordate at the base, tapering
to an acute tip, smooth, flat. Sheath smooth, glabrous, naked
at the throat. Inflorescence an oblong or ovoid panicle contracted
or with spreading branches, pink to red in colour. Spikelets of
many flowers, ovate in shape, compressed. The shape of the spikelet
and the red colour of the inflorescence are characteristics of
this species.

Found in damp places near over-flowers,
and wet cultivation, also noticed in moist and water stagnant
areas in the Warangal District forests.
