Botanical Name - Dalbergia lanceolaria

----- A large deciduous tree with glabrous branches. Bark compact, grey, smooth, exfoliating in thin rounded patches, yellowish inside but instantly turning brown. Leaflets 11 -15, 1-2 by 1/2-1 in., elliptic or oblong, acute or emarginate, sub-coriaceous, pale beneaeth. Flowers 1/5-1/2 in. long, dull-white in large lax terminal and axillary panicles. Calyx 1/8 in., brownish-purple, more or less silky. Corolla pale pink, 2-3 times as long as the calyx ; standard 1/4 in. broad ; the keel much shorter than the wings. Pod 2-3 by 1/2-3/4 in., narrowed at both ends, on a stalk 1/3-/12 in. long, glabrous, flexible, bright brown, generally one-seeded, reticulate over the seed.

----- Frequently met with throughout the Hyderabad forests, though not very common. A very conspicuous and handsome tree when flowering, which appear very protusely during the months of May and June, while the tree is quite leafless. The tree has the appearance of an Albizza. Wood white or yellowish-white, moderately hard, no heartwood ; annual rings marked by thin concentric lines. Weight 33-44 lbs. per c. ft. It is said not to be durable, though it is sometimes used for building purposes.
