A nannual grass with
branching culms reaching a height of about 5 ft. Leaf blades linear-lanceolate,
5-18 in. by 1/2 - 2 inches with cordate base, rarely narrowed.
Inflorescence peduncled, sub-erect with false spikes ; peduncles
0.3 in; long; female bracts 0.3 - 0.5 in. long; male racemes 0.4
- 2 in long spikelets 2-3 note; wings of lower glumes very small,

Common near edges of tanks, small
streams, found all over the State. Leaves are readily eaten by
cattle.
