Botanical Name - Chrysopogon montanus

----- Chrysopogon montanus, Trin. ( Syn. Andropogon Monticola, schult. ) Vern. Pedda Pala, Bogray Gaddi, Gurra batto Kelu ( Tel. )

----- A perennial grass. Culms 3/4 to 3 ft. high, densely tufted, erect-or ascending from a short geniculate base, often very slender, somewhat compressed, simple or branched. Leaf blades linear acuminate 1 1/2 to 8 in. long, 0.05 to 0.1 in. wide, usually rigid, sometimes ciliate from bulbous base ; inflorescence an ovate or cylindrical panicle. Branches usually spreading. Glumes of sessile spikelet 0.12 to 0.2 in. long, upper with an arista ; glumes of pedicelled spikelets 0.13 to 0.2 in. long, lower with an arista.

----- Found in the open, dry and stony region of forests of the State, specially on laterite soil. Valuable fodder grass. Most nutricious when cut before flowering.
