A perennial grass. Culms
3/4 to 3 ft. high, densely tufted, erect-or ascending from a short
geniculate base, often very slender, somewhat compressed, simple
or branched. Leaf blades linear acuminate 1 1/2 to 8 in. long,
0.05 to 0.1 in. wide, usually rigid, sometimes ciliate from bulbous
base ; inflorescence an ovate or cylindrical panicle. Branches
usually spreading. Glumes of sessile spikelet 0.12 to 0.2 in.
long, upper with an arista ; glumes of pedicelled spikelets 0.13
to 0.2 in. long, lower with an arista.

Found in the open, dry and stony
region of forests of the State, specially on laterite soil. Valuable
fodder grass. Most nutricious when cut before flowering.
