A large prickly climbing
shrub, Leaves over
a foot long ; Pinnae
6-8 pairs, 3-5 in. long ; the leaves, stalk and its branches armed
with re-curved prickles. Leaflets
6-10 pairs on each pinna, opposite, 1/2-1 by 1/4-1/2 in., oblong
or elliptic, obtuse, mucronate, membranaceous, downy beneath,
minutely petioled. Flowers
yellow, in racemes 6-12 in. long, gradually denser towards the
top. Pod 2-3 by 1 1/2-2.
in., coriaceous dehiscent, thickly beset with sharp wiory prickles
; Seeds 2-3 in each
pod, 1/2 in. long, globose or ovoid, shining lead-coloured, with
numerous very fine horizontal cracks when dry.

Throughout Hyderabad, in hedges,
or climbing over bushes, generally near villages. It makes a useful
and impenetrable hedge-plant, being covered with prickles, especially
the pods. The seeds are large, grey, like marbles, used in medicine
and for exressing. Flowers during the rains and Fruit
in the cold season.
