256. Vern. Kachnar, Hind. "White Bauhinia."
-----
A handsome shrub, 8 or 10 ft.
high. The flowers of this pretty tree are very handsome when open,
being almost pure white, with a sweet odour. This tree is found
in the Bombay forests, but rarely ; and is said to be more common
in the vicinity of villages. It reaches a fair size and given
a wood of good quality, but, seldom of scantling size sufficient
for house purposes. The flower-buds yield an excellent vegetable
for curries ; the flowers of all the Bauhinias are eaten by the
natives. Both the last species have been frequently noticed in
cultivation.
