large deciduous tree. Bark
rough, dark-coloured. Prickles twin, intra-stipular, slightly
curved. Leaflets 15-30
pairs, grey, linear, 1/4-1/2 in. long; Pinnae
4-6 pairs, 2-3 in. long. Flowers
pale yellow in numerous lax axillary spikes 3-4 in. long, which
are often panicled at the ends of branches. Pods
glabrous 3-7 in. tardily dehiscent, 4-6 seeded.
----- A
tolerably common tree, but less frequently found in the Maratwada
Districts than elsewhere. It is a handsome middle -sized tree.
The wood is very hard, harder than of A. Catechu; sapwood large,
yellowish-white; heart-wood olive-brown. Used for building carts
and agriculturalimplements. Flowers just before the beginning
of the rains. The growth of this species is very slow except in
rich soils of a porous nature. The tree coppies fairly well.
