A small deciduous tree
or large shrub. Bark
rough, dark grey, branches armed with straight stipular spines,
mostly stout, generally dark-brown and about 1/2 in. long., the
larger ones ivory-white and 1-2 in. long. Leaves
small, clothed with long hairs; pinnae 4-8, usually 4 pairs; all
or at least two pairs, with a gland at the insertion. Leaflets
8-12, pairs, acute. Flowers
yellow with an unpleasant smell, in axillary globose heads, about
1/2-in. diam., fasciculate, reddish-brown while in bud; membranous
bracts below the middle of the peduncle. Pods
linear, slender, flat, veined, generally 2-4 from one flower-head,
2-5 in. long by 1/4 in. wide, edges undulate, slightly contracted
between the seeds.

A pretty tree, nowhere very common;
found in the drier parts of Nanded and Parbhani towards Berar,
and South in towards the Krishna. Wood hard, yellowish-white,
often with a red heart-wood. Not used except as fuel; weight about
54 lbs. per c. ft. Flowers November to March.
