Note on Kambalakonda Eco-tourism Park, Visakhapatnam

Restoration and Redevelopment of Kambalakonda Eco-tourism Park, Visakhapatnam under World Bank Aided AP Disaster Recovery Project (APDRP) : (Credit no. 5694-IN).

Formation of Kambalakonda Eco-tourism Park :
Continuous with the Wildlife Sanctuary, an area of 107.73 ha was declared as Eco-Park in 2003 in Kambalaknda RF.

Managed by :
Eco-Development Committee (EDC) of village Sambhuvanipalem located within the Sanctuary with resources generated from the Park under the control of Forest Department.

Need of Project- APDRP :
A very severe cyclonic storm Hudhud made landfall at a surface wind speed of about 180 kmph on the coast of Andhra Pradesh, near the city of Visakhapatnam on October 12, 2014, caused extensive devastation in 4 Coastal districts. Kambalakonda Eco-park is one among the damaged entities.

Allocation :
Rs.12.00 crore to restore and redevelop the Eco-tourism Park ( out of Rs.120.00 crore allocated to AP Forest Department as Component 4 under APDRP.

Objectives :
Maintain the unique eco-system with an effort to increase the ecological/ biodiversity value of the area.
Integrate the proposed development of the Eco-park that is in contiguous with the Kambalakonda Wildlife Sanctuary.
Improve conservation based livelihood opportunities for the EDC/local community and strengthen the role of the EDC in running the Eco-park viably.

Design consultancy :
Will include assessment of the Kambalakonda landscape,
Formulation of a master plan for the Eco-park
Preparation of detailed plans/designs of activities/works to be carried out for restoration and redevelopment of the Eco-park.

Master Plan : The area of Eco-park is divided into 4 zones.
Zone A : Entrance/ Parking facilities : Main gate, Parking, Ticket counter, Information centre, Power station etc.,
Zone B : Family activity : Cafeteria, Children play area, Rain shelter, Amphitheatre, Forest Department meeting rooms etc.,
Zone C : Education and adventure : Interpretation centre, Watch tower, Yoga and meditation centre, Boating and Jetty etc.,
Zone D : Conservation zone : Bicycle trail, Family trails, Rest shelters etc.,

Apart from this, Circulation plan involves, vehicular route, service vehicle route, cart/ bicycle track, bicycle trail etc.,
